You Found That Where?

Uncategorized
I first showed this week’s picture to a few friends over the internet and the first question I got was “Where did you find a flower like that?” The answer is amazingly simple. I walked out my front door, went to the pool and started shooting all the planters the grounds keepers recently filled up. Of course I wanted to start out by shooting lots of color, to test the new camera, so I figured flowers were the way to go. I shot over 200 pics, and of all of them, this week’s shot is probably my favorite. There was also one with a Bee that looks way cool, but I’ll leave that one for another post sometime.

So, here it is, this week’s shot. I know, I missed a week! But we hit a major milestone at work, and I was a bit distracted. My favorite thing about this picture is the contrast between the in-focus flowers in the center and the blurred flowers in the background. I’m quite impressed by the depth-of-field effects I was able to achieve – the new camera made it so easy. I actually shot a whole series of photos at this one planter, making each of the several flower groups have focus, while maintaining the same frame. Someday, when I get my photo gallery online, I’ll post a link to the series. Until then, enjoy this flower :)

And yes, I’d love to get a photo gallery up and running. I did a project back in college that wrote a whole photo gallery service. I’m going to try to convert it over to use newer technologies and host it on my site. I’ll be sure to update with progress as it comes along, but for now I’m just in the “Someday, I’ll do that” stage.

Hopefully next week, I’ll be back with a new photo. I’m going to try to mix up the subjects so there’s something completely different from week to week. I also think that rambling about each picture will get pretty booring, so I’m going to try to develop a new format for each week’s entry. I’m thinking a quick blurb about the photo and then some interesting, but perhaps unrelated stories. I know at this point, about only 3 people know this site exists, and I’d like to keep all of you entertained :)

Well that’s all for now – I really have to start writing these things earlier.
