April Showers Bring April??? Flowers

Last night we had a rare phenomenon in the Seattle area – a thunderstorm! Yes, the city that gets the rap for perpetual rain rarely has thunderstorms. If you’re not from around here, you probably think it pours everyday, but it doesn’t. In fact, while we have many days with precipitation, it hardly ever rains in Seattle. More often there’s a slight drizzle in the morning or evening. It’s so light you don’t even need to wear a coat!

But yesterday evening, we had an actual rain. And when I finally ventured outside this lazy Sunday afternoon, I saw that a bunch of flowers had opened up. So of course, this was a perfect photo op! If I hadn’t chosen to go shopping for spring/summer clothes, I would have had a bajillion great shots. Instead, I made a quick (2-3 hour) trip to American Eagle, Borders, a late lunch…. Consequently, I took my pictures a bit late in the day, with the light waning. Thus, the picture you see above has been slightly re-touched to adjust the color levels. I generally try to leave the photos I post here un-touched, but in this case, I wanted the flower to look as rich as it does in real life. This flower has an amazingly rich purple color that I think makes it look a little surreal. It’s very unique, which is why I posted (is that a word?) it for you all to see. You won’t be able to catch a whiff of the sweet smell, but at least it will still look pretty.

I also plan to start doing some creative works with the photos I take. I used to do this several years ago, back when Photoshop was still on version 4! So be on the lookout for some unique photos appearing here in the next few weeks.

And now, before I get to bed too late to wake up to my alarm again (thus missing my morning workout), I’m going to catch some sleep. Enjoy the flower – may it bring you a wonderful Spring-y week.
