Beginnings

So I finally figured out what I’m going to do with this page. Aside from ocasional random comments, I’m going to keep a photo journal. Each week, I’ll pick a single photo I’ve taken and comment on it. I’ll try to come up with some interesting shots to keep the page entertaining. If you have special requests, please let me know – I’ll do my best to capture submitted ideas into interesting photos.

Today’s photo is one of my first with my new camera. Just today, I purchased the Canon EOS 20D with a canon EF-S 17-85mm IS USM lens. I spent a little time playing around with the long-exposure settings this evening, and caputred this photo of the clubhouse to my apartment community. I especially like night photos because they allow the outdoor lighting to cast intricate shadows on the objects in the picture. I also like the challenge in capturing photos like these, because they give the photographer the chance to experiment with aperature and exposure time, the effects of which are much more dramatic in night scenes than in day scenes. This photo is just a quick shot, so it could certainly have a lot more depth and less glare from the light sources, but I’ll leave that for an evening when it’s not already 2 AM :)

That’s about all for now – check back to see more exciting photos.
