American Idol 5/22/2007 – Finale – Top 2 Perform

It’s here, the finale!  Blake vs. Jordin.  Man vs. Woman.  Beatbox vs. Big Voice.  It’s gonna be big and its in the Kodak Theater.  And we’re starting now!

UPDATE:  100,000 down, 2 to go.  This is the night, this is the audience (it’s pretty big!)  This is AmErican Idol.

UPDATE:  WTF IS RANDY WEARING?  IT LOOKS LIKE, UM, I DON’T EVEN KNOW…

UPDATE:  Paula broke her nose?  Ryan:  “Well at least we know the bitch is OK” – in reference to the dog Paula tripped over.  Ryan, getting edgy!

UPDATE:  Both Blake and Jordin made it through to Hollywood via the Seattle auditions.  I know there were a lot of awful people, but see Simon, Seattle does have some talent!

UPDATE:  The Coin Toss – Blake wins and chooses to go first.

UPDATE:  He starts with You Give Love a Bad Name!   HOTT!

UPDATE:  Randy says 10/10 on the beatboxing, but the singing was just alright.  Paula just looks awful.  Simon says I liked the performance, but it was flat in the middle.  Me:  I agree that the beatboxing was off the charts – the singing wasn’t quite as good as last time, but I don’t think it matters, the performance was so good.  Oh, and the ending rocked again.

UPDATE:  Did anyone notice that the mixing was off a bit on that song?  And the mic cut out at one point!

UPDATE:  BTW, the contestants are all singing their favorite song, a song they haven’t performed before, and the song that won the American Idol Songwriter competition.

UPDATE:  Jordin doing Fighter.  She’s takin on Christina – that’s dangerous!

UPDATE:  So if you look past the sound dude continuing to not get the levels right, that still wasn’t anything amazing.  I’ll give Jordin props and say that I think she did better than most people could covering that song, it just didn’t come anywhere close to Christina.

UPDATE:  And the judges think… Randy:  “You were stellar… you sounded amazing.”  Paula:  “I knew this was gonna be the best finale ever.”  Simon: “I thought the vocals were a bit shrieky in the middle.  I’m gonna call Round 1 to Blake.”

UPDATE:  Ryan asks – Paula calls Round 1 a tie, Randy gives edgy performance to Blake, vocals to Jordin.

UPDATE:  Don’t give Blake a set of drums!

UPDATE:  Maroon 5′s She Will Be Loved.  And Blake sitting down – the softer side of Blake – nice.  Good use of falsetto – he’s even changing up some of the notes, that’s pretty cool.

UPDATE:  I liked it – you could really believe that performance.

UPDATE:  Randy: loved the vocal.  Paula:  relaxed… you were so great out there.  Simon:  “It was good, it was safe, it wasn’t as good as the first performance, and I actually wouldn’t have chosen that song in the final because I don’t think it makes that much of an impact.”

UPDATE:  Jordin’s video gets the cute vote.

UPDATE:  A Broken Wing.  This was good earlier in the season.

UPDATE:  Jordin is really very pretty with her hair down.   We don’t often see that, I feel.

UPDATE:  Great vocal!  And she knows it too :)

UPDATE:  Randy says better than the original.  Paula says she’s soaring.  Simon: “Now that was good!”

UPDATE:  We’ve got a battle going on!

UPDATE:  This is My Now – the winner of the songwriter competition.  And they’re from Seattle, too!

UPDATE:  Blake sitting on the video screen!

UPDATE:  The start of this song is a  good vocal for him.  Overall,  not perfect, but the quiet parts were really good, and I felt we really got to hear more of his range this time.  I liked it.

UPDATE:  Randy didn’t think it was awesome.  Paula said great job.  Simon said it was a little odd – not the type of song that he would normally sing.

UPDATE:  The middle was kind of bouncy – that was odd.  I think he really wanted to get upbeat with a boring song.  So in the end, I like Blake’s personality a lot, and his originality and stage presence is way above that of Jordin or any of the previous finalists I can remember.  Now we just have to see how well Jordin does with a song that is much more suited to her style.

UPDATE:  Ryan up in the balcony.  And Jordin’s up with the same song.

UPDATE:  I didn’t like her opening as much as Blake – I thought she had a little trouble with the lower notes.  But!  The middle is hot for her – she has a great voice for this song.  And overall, I think I can see Jordin making a record out of this song more than I can Blake.

UPDATE:  I’m noticing that they fixed the sound – did they call in a replacement dude in the middle of the show?

UPDATE:  Oooo – Jordin kinda faltered at the end there… she’s crying a bit.

UPDATE:  Randy: “You were the best singer tonight.”  Paula: blah blah blah.  Simon:  “Last week I didn’t think you were good enough to make the finals, and I want to say to you publicly, now, that I was wrong… You just wiped the floor with Blake on that one.”

UPDATE:  So we do the recap for the last time this season.  And I think Jordin will win.  Blake was still awesome, and he’s definitely a better performer, but Jordin’s vocals were hot.

UPDATE:  Simon says best individual performance was Blake with his first song, but overall vocals goes to Jordin.

UPDATE:  Daughtry performs  Home to close out the show.  Great song!

UPDATE:  Tomorrow is a 2-hr results show.  No, they don’t plan to drag it out at all…  I’m actually going to see a Robin Williams standup act tomorrow, so I won’t catch the show live, but I’ll be here later in the evening to bring you the last installment of this series of blogs.  I wouldn’t let you, my faithful readers down!

UPDATE:  Ugh!  I hate my DVR – it just cut off Chris’s performance so it could tape something else.  Yes, I just got Comcasted!

Did you see they rigged it? At the part of the show where they recap Blake and Jordin w/ phone numbers, they show Jordin as NOT CRYING at the end of the original song. BUT, earlier, you did see her crying AT the end of the song. Somewhere along the line, they let Jordin re-sing the last 2 lines of the song and put the NEW, NON-CRYING version in the recap before voting began. Go back and watch the last 10 seconds of her singing “This is My Now” and THEN watch the voting summary for her and see that it’s totally different. WEIRD.
